Dr. Erasto S. Mlyuka is a visionary leader in technology management and innovation, currently serving as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi) and the Technology Management and Transfer Manager at the National Centre for Development of Technology and Transfer under the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH). Additionally, Dr. Mlyuka is the National Focal Point for the Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) Network under WIPO, supporting intellectual property (IP) management and spin-off company formation to enhance universityindustry collaborations.

Dr. Mlyuka’s expertise spans sustainable agriculture, food processing, and innovative extraction technologies such as sub-critical water methods for bioactive compounds. His work in nutraceuticals and functional foods has garnered international recognition, including an award from the International Society for Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods (ISNFF) in 2015.

A champion for research commercialization, Dr. Mlyuka plays a pivotal role in advancing the establishment of spin-off companies within Tanzania’s research and higher learning institutions. Through his work with COSTECH, he has supported the development of National Guidelines for Spin-Off Companies, emphasizing intellectual property protection, funding brokerage, and product certification processes. His efforts focus on creating robust frameworks that enable effective technology transfer and collaboration between academia and industry.

Under his leadership, DTBi has spearheaded transformative programs such as the Youth Team Initiative and Vocalized IoT. The Youth Team Initiative focuses on equipping young innovators with the skills and resources to drive impactful projects and establish sustainable businesses. Meanwhile, the Vocalized IoT Program addresses the growing demand for Internet of Things (IoT) technologies by building the capacity of vocational training institutions to deliver practical IoT solutions tailored to local needs, fostering employment and innovation in Tanzania.
